For the past couple of weeks we've been hosting these cute ducks in our pool. A male and a female that I named Otis and Matilda. The kids didn't like the names I chose, but their suggestions weren't much better. Casey wanted Lightning (as in 'Lightning McQueen' from Cars) and Abby (who is our next door neighbor). The kids and I enjoy watching them swim around and we feed them bread (but just one slice per visit!). They usually come in the morning but on Sunday they showed up in the afternoon while we were eating lunch. It's been nice out so we decided to sit outside and eat our lunch while the ducks bathed in our pool. Anyway, I felt kind of special that Otis and Matilda would choose our pool to hang out when they have millions of pools to choose from! Turns out they've been making the rounds. The other morning, actually right after the ducks had come for a visit, I called my neighbor to ask if I could borrow something (we use each other as a convenience store when we are missing "that one ingredient"!) and to see how her daughter was doing. She said she was fine and that they were getting ready to go feed the ducks in their pool! I don't know why I was so surprised that Otis and Matilda left our pool for our neighbors, that's probably what they do all day, pool hop!
Well, this afternoon, Matilda showed up without Otis. I hope he's okay! After I fed her a piece of bread I decided to see what would happen if I let Lucy in the pool area. Now don't go thinking I'm a terrible animal hater to let my dog after a poor innocent duck because Lucy hates the pool. We tried getting her to swim this past summer and she can't get out fast enough. So I just wanted to see how badly she wanted that duck, knowing full well that she wouldn't touch the water. It was pretty funny! Matilda taunted her and would just swim from side to side. Lucy was going crazy! I caught it on the camera, take a look:
